IN TRANSIT

High-speed travel doesn’t allow the information moving past to properly be recorded mentally. The view from the plane is often enlightening, both clear and distanced. The perspective of transit, a perspective of movement. Intuitively I need to record it, as I cannot follow the shifts emotionally. I use my camera automatically as changes present themselves. Years later I can reflect and allow the information to sink in, and only then can the emotional integration of what I have experienced take place.

As the camera so vividly records, there is Information and lessons in the landscapes as they change and exhibit contrast: rich or poor, accidental or controlled, affected by climate or politically. Neighbouring countries draw lines intersecting the landscapes. My camera records and becomes my teacher, it allows my soul to catch up with the distance covered and the information presented.

High speed travelling is a way to travel when executing big commercial jobs. Travel without awareness of the carbon footprint we left behind. Today we clearly see the impact of climate changes and how it effects our planet. It is humbling to reflect on my own contribution to the destruction.

These airport codes are reminders of a kind of travel that belong to the past.  An example of one month of many - March-09: YYZ-JFK / JFK-LHR / LHR-DEL / DEL-CCU / CCU-IXZ / IXZ-MAA / MAA-DXB / DXB-CPT / CPT-LHR.

How do we adapt to cultural and political information which comes at us at high speed? How do we keep up with the information on an emotional level? How does travel connect to our soul at high speed? As I travel great distances my existence feels fleeting. There is no time to process. The imprint of my head on the pillow is proof I had laid there, that I do exist. Seeing my face in the mirror often felt distant. Is she still someone I know?
